Elizabeth Maxey Long
I am Elizabeth Maxey Long and I joined Shepherd & Associates in January 2017. Originally from Yorktown, Virginia, I graduated from the University of Virginia in 2003 with a B.S. in Commerce. After graduating from college, I taught English to German students at a college preparatory high school in Trier, Germany, as part of the U.S. Fulbright teaching assistant program. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2007 with a concentration in Advocacy.
I started my career as a family law attorney in Richmond, Virginia, in 2007, and am licensed to practice law in both Tennessee and Virginia. Since returning to Tennessee in 2009, I have continued serving clients in the areas of Divorce, Custody, Child Support, Adoption, and Juvenile Law. I also practice in the areas of Estate Planning and Administration. I am a member of the Blount County, Knoxville, and Tennessee Bar Associations.
When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Forrest, and our three children. We love living in Maryville and taking advantage of everything that the area offers.

Why I Love Being An Attorney In Tennessee
My work with families is important to me. Some of the best cases I have handled have been in helping families stay together, grow, or find ways to communicate more effectively.
Working on subjects involving children can be sensitive, so when I am employed in such a case, I bear in mind that this is not just my job, but their life and their future at stake as well.
This is what drives me to find better solutions for all parties. I talk with my clients and take my awareness of their needs and feelings into consideration because in these cases, they are always important.
I’m also happy with my work in estate planning and administering, another area where you have to be very sensitive to the needs of your clients.
I always do my best to offer unbiased legal counsel and help the client come to a decision that satisfies them but that also gives their families enough support for the future. We, as a team, make sure that the last wishes of a deceased are handled with the utmost care.
In general, we are very focused, passionate and dedicated to each person who walks through our door. As a team, we function seamlessly, and we always put our clients first. Our services are holistic and adapted to each of our client’s needs.
I find my work at Shepherd & Associates, P.C. valuable because of the approach we take as a team. We are not cold and disconnected from these people and cases. We get to know our clients, learning about their family and personalities to better serve their needs.
We root for them and work even harder to achieve favorable results. So, we are very proud of the results we achieve at Shepherd & Associates, P.C.
Personal Life And Activities
When I’m not working with my clients, I like to spend time with my own family; my husband Forrest and our children George and Caroline. I enjoy quality time with them, being outdoors or relishing in simple activities in the beautiful Knoxville area.
Tennessee has been good to us so far, and we enjoy living here.
My other interests include my church work with New Providence Presbyterian Church and Knoxville Junior Service League where I’ve been since 2014. I’m also a Blount County Public Library Foundation Board Member as well as a member of the Blount County, Knoxville, and Tennessee Bar Association and Social Security Claimants Representatives.
