Strategic Defense for Traffic Violations

Fighting Maryville traffic tickets since 1993

There are millions of drivers in Tennessee, so the chances that you, or someone you know, has received a traffic ticket are pretty high. For some people, a traffic ticket is an inconvenience – but that inconvenience can come with steep penalties and fines that have long-term effects on your life. When you’re facing a traffic ticket, you want a lawyer who can argue effectively against the charges.

I am Kevin Shepherd, and I’ve been protecting drivers in Maryville and throughout East Tennessee for 26 years. Before I founded my firm Shepherd and Associates, P.C., I served as Public Defender, so I understand firsthand how a seemingly “small” traffic ticket can lead to hardship. I work with each and every one of my clients when it comes to eliminating or reducing the fines and penalties associated with a traffic violation, so you always have the full force of my experience behind you.

What kinds of traffic tickets are there?

In Tennessee (and indeed, throughout the country) there are two categories of traffic crimes: moving violations and non-moving violations. A non-moving violation, such as parking illegally or driving without your license, can cost you up to $50 in fines plus court costs – costs which are sometimes higher than the amount of the fine for your error.

Moving violations, however, are far more serious. Aside from the cost of the ticket itself, you may also receive points on your license, increased insurance premiums, and in some cases potential jail time. I have decades of experience handling moving violations such as:

  • Speeding
  • Reckless driving
  • Careless driving
  • Failure to yield
  • Failure to obey traffic signs
  • Running a red light

Each of these charges can be enhanced depending on your circumstances. For example: a speeding ticket for doing 10mph over the speed limit on a highway can cost you money and time, but doing 10mph over the limit in a school zone could have much more severe consequences. If you’re a commercial truck driver, you could lose your CDL even if you weren’t driving your truck at the time. That means a careless driving ticket can cost you not only fines, but your livelihood as well.

As a criminal defense attorney, I understand how traffic courts operate. My in-depth knowledge of the laws as well as my insight into this particular court system gives me an advantage when I work on your case. I have successfully had traffic charges dropped entirely for my clients. When I cannot have the charges dropped, I use my superior negotiation skills to have your charges and your penalties reduced. In this way, I’ve helped my clients keep their licenses and avoid hefty fines – and I want to help you, too.
